PhD position in systems neuroscience - G. Keller lab

The laboratory of Georg Keller at the Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research (FMI) in Basel, Switzerland, is looking for a PhD candidate.

We are recruiting a PhD researcher to strengthen our team working on understanding the circuitry and computational algorithms of neocortex. To investigate cortical processing, we use a combination of imaging, electrophysiological, and molecular techniques to record and manipulate activity of genetically identified cortical neurons during behavior. Based on these experiments and theoretical considerations we attempt to infer the basic functional principles underlying cortical processing.

Candidates holding a Master’s degree in Neuroscience, Life Sciences, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, ideally with a strong technical background, are encouraged to apply. Fluency in English, both written and oral, is mandatory.

The FMI - affiliated with the University of Basel and the Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research - is a world-class biomedical research institute dedicated to understanding the molecular mechanisms of health and disease, committed to training young scientists. It is based in the vibrant city of Basel, Switzerland, which offers an exceptional scientific and cultural environment.

This position is part of the FMI International PhD Program. Please submit your application to the Program at the portal https://www.fmi.ch/education-careers/programs/#application
